Tree Pruning
After listening to your needs and observing the tree, I can recommend a pruning operation that is best for you and the long term health of the tree.
Formative pruning
Young trees can be pruned to ensure good form later in life. The earlier this is done the better. This can be an incredibly cost effective intervention that saves expensive and damaging work in the future.
Cohabitation pruning
Because of their location, some trees need to be regularly pruned in order to provide clearance to buildings, roads, wires and other obstacles. It is better to do this frequently, removing small branches, than be forced to inflict large wounds on an otherwise healthy tree.
Aesthetic pruning
Trees can be reduced, lifted or thinned to create a more pleasing form, to reduce shade or to give an unobstructed view. If I do this I will inform you of any implications for long term maintenance or the long term health of the tree.
Maintenance pruning
Trees managed as pollards need to be recut on a regular cycle. If the species is appropriate, this can be an effective method of controlling a tree’s size. Once a regime has been started, it must be continued. It can be dangerous to let regrowth become too tall and heavy.
Security pruning
Sometimes it is necessary to remove dead or damaged branches. Especially toward the end of their lives trees can be pruned to reduce the risk of their falling or of limbs breaking. This can often extend the lifetime of a tree that would otherwise have to be felled.
